December Meeting/Holiday Decoration Judging (Dec '07)

Monday, December 10th – There will be no regular meeting for December. Members and their spouses will meet at the home of Debbie and Robert Honick at 6:30 then carpool throughout the subdivision judging the Holiday decorations.

Antique Rose Emporium (Nov '07)

FRIDAY, November 2nd Trip to the 20th Annual Fall Festival of Roses at the Antique Rose Emporium in Independence, Texas near Brenham. We will carpool from the Basketball Pavilion at 8:30 am. Any Indigo resident and their guests are welcome to join us. The festival runs November 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Guest speakers are featured throughout the day. In addition to selling roses online, The Antique Rose Emporium has two display gardens in Texas. These multi-acred gardens feature hundreds of roses, perennials, herbs and native flora reflecting the personality of each location. Each site contains herb gardens, cottage gardens and many perennial borders. All plants displayed are also offered for sale. Gift related items are also available. On the festival days there will be free growing field tours, food vendors on site, picnic areas available.

November Meeting (Nov '07)

Monday, November 12th - There will be no regular meeting for November. Volunteers will meet at the Beach Park at 9 am for final instructions then break into groups and begin attaching the red bows to the ILE mailboxes. Volunteers can then return to the Beach Park at 11:30 for a pizza lunch. (See article with explanation of the Red Bow Service Project).

Holiday Decorations (Nov '07)

Saturday, November 17th We will once again be decorating the 3 entrances for the Christmas Holidays. Volunteers can help load the decorations at our storage unit beginning at 9 am or go to one of the 3 entrances to assist in placing the decorations.

New Resident Social (Nov '07)

Saturday, November 17th will be the 2nd Annual Indigo Lake Estates Wine and Appetizer Social to welcome the new residents. This event is for every adult ILE resident. Read about last years social...

October Meeting (Oct '07)

Regular meeting for October will be Monday, Oct. 8th at the home of LeeAnn and Mike Bower. The meeting will begin at 9:30. Master Gardener, Carol Ann the Gourd Lady will once again amaze and delight with her vast knowledge and artistic use of gourds.

65th Annual Bulb Mart (Oct '07)

THURSDAY, October 11th Trip to the 65th Annual Bulb Mart hosted by the Houston Garden Club. We will carpool from the Basketball Pavilion parking lot at 9 am. Any Indigo resident and their guests are welcome to join us. The mart runs October 11, 12 and 13, 2007 at the Westminster United Methodist Church on the corner of San Felipe at Bering. One of the largest horticultural events in Texas, the 65th Annual Bulb and Plant Mart will feature the widest selection of top-quality bulbs from domestic and international suppliers and an expanded collection of hard-to-find and unusual plants, perennials, trees, shrubs and vines. Many of the plants and bulbs are unique offerings from the gardens of Club members, grown specifically for the Mart. Annual Fall Plant Sale (Oct '07)

SATURDAY, October 20th is the Annual Fall Plant Sale at the Texas Cooperative Extension in Conroe. Check out www.montgomerycountymastergardeners.org or call 936 539-7824 for information. Arrive early to enjoy the pre-sale plant discussion and to get best plant selection.

Brookwood- Brookshire Texas

GREAT Outing for October will be Monday the 22nd. We will travel to Brookshire, Texas for a tour and luncheon at Brookwood. If you do not yet know about this community please check out www.brookwoodcommunity.org Many of you may have visited there before. I have shopped in their store at Old Town Spring many times. We HAVE to be there by 9:15 for a tour that begins at 9:30. We will tour the workshops as the residents are at their work making the various items. They also have 39 greenhouses and we will tour their gardening center. We will have time in the gift center before lunch is served at 11:30. We will preorder the lunches (choice of 2 entrees, soup or salad, beverage and dessert.
This is a great time of year for the visit as they will have all of their Christmas items available for purchase.

Trash Pick Up (Oct '07)

Sat. October 20th is a quarterly trash clean-up along Nichols Sawmill. It is also the day of the Fall Plant Sale at the Montgomery County Extension Service in Conroe (which you may choose to visit).

 

The Potting Shed (Sept '07)

Outing for Sept was the 4th Monday the 24th - Potting Shed at 10 am. We planted pots with 3 plants for Fall, your cost is $5 and the Club paid the rest. We will ask to borrow your pot for the 2nd Annual Wine and Cheese Newcomer Social where we will use it as part of the decorations as this worked so wonderfully last year. We met at the Potting Shed at 10 am.

September Meeting (Sept '07)

The regular meetings are held the 2nd Monday of every month between Sept. and June. Sept meeting was at Elizabeth and Peter Nimmos home. A master gardener will gave an interesting presentation on Xeriscaping for Texas. We also enjoyed potluck lunch. You can find some of the great entrees, sides and desserts in our recipe section!

June Meeting (June '07)

Our last meeting of our regular program year (we meet September through June) was hosted by Jim and Delores.  Due to a scheduling conflict, the June meeting was on the 3rd Monday ( June 18th) rather than the usual second Monday.  We hope you joined us for the program entitled Birds in Your Garden.  There was be a powerpoint presentation as well as discussion of ways to entice the various birds to your yard.  We have many avid birdwatchers in ILE.  The Crowe's hosted last June and our guest speaker about birds was unable to make it at the last minute - so we especially enjoyed to this meeting.

WHAT:  We will have a guided tour of all their greenhouses, shop their plants and large assortment of giftware, yard art, etc.
LUNCH:  "Must Be Heaven" restaurant in Brenham   Wonderful restaurant which includes a full size old-time icre cream parlor as well as sandwiches, soups, quiches and amazing homemade pies. 

May Meeting (May '07)

Our regular meeting for May was at the home of Susan and Mark on Sapphire Court.  This was our annual Salad Luncheon and Plant Exchange.  Everyone brouht a salad and some plants or cuttings that they wanted to exchange. Drinks and dessert and paper goods were provided. 

 For this meeting only, we started the meeting later that usual as we stayed for lunch.  We will toured the yard and gardens at the Beckemeiers, ate lunch, and did our plant exchange.  This is always one of our most fun events - if you have been considering joining this group please consider this a special invitation. 

Hope Farms (April '07)

SPECIAL EVENT in April! We will once again traveled to Hope Farms near Conroe. The owner (Barbara the Master Gardener speaking at the April meeting) opens her vast gardens to visitors one month each year. She generally starts in May but this year we were scheduled for Monday, April 23. She schedules private tours on weekdays (1 group per day) and opens to the public on weekends. Many of her beautiful plants are available for purchase and there are items from other Master Gardeners and crafters available as well. There was a carpooling option and we arranged with a local restaurant to provide box lunches at a reasonable cost.

March Meeting (March '07)

The regular meeting for March will be held on Monday, March 13 at the home of Calvin and Patsy's 21819 Timber Ridge Drive. We will be enjoying a program on Preparing Your Vegetable Garden for Spring and a tour of Calvin and Patsy's gardens. As usual, please join us to socialize at 9:30. The meeting will begin at 10 am.
There is no additional outing planned for March.

Forbidden Gardens (Feb '07)

On Friday, February 23, The group traveled to the Forbidden Gardens near Katy. Forbidden Gardens, in Katy, Texas, is a fascinating outdoor museum replicating some of China's major historic scenes. Guided tours take you back to the third century BC to view the first Emperor's amazing 6,000 piece terra-cotta army replicated in 1/3 scale. The tour continues to the intricately detailed miniatures of the famous Forbidden City in Beijing which served as palaces for nearly 500 years of Imperial rule.

February Meeting (Feb '07)

Our regular meeting for February was held on Monday, February 12 at the home of LeeAnn and Mike B 20115 Sapphire Circle.  We once again enjoyed a program/cooking demo by Jacquie of jacquisine on Cooking with Locally Grown Winter Produce.

January Meeting (Jan '07)

Our regular meeting for January was Monday the 8th beginning at 9:30 am. We met at the Charlotte H's home.

Our guest speaker once again was Master Gardner Susan (who was so fabulous at the Plants of the Bible meeting last October). She spoke about Houseplants and we shared questions, success stories, etc.

December Meeting (Dec '06)

Our regular meeting for December will be held on Monday, December 11 at the home of Debbie H. Please arrive at 9:30. Meeting begins at 10:00. The program will be presented by the owner of the new florist shop in Magnolia – Klara’s Kreations. She will be teaching us all about fresh flowers.

Holiday Bow Sale (Nov-Dec'06)

The Garden Club made and sold Red Bows for the Holidays.  ILE residents will purchased them to decorate their mailboxes (and their fence posts, and the pillars at their driveway entrances).  People who drive through our neighborhoods at Holiday time enjoyed this festive decoration.

The bows are reasonably priced at $3 each.  They are made of ribbon designed for use in outdoor decorations. The profit from last year’s sale helped pay for the beautiful Holiday decorations at the 3 ILE entrances. 

This is an ongoing project for the club.  Show your community spirit by putting a bow on your mailbox next year!

The Garden Club gathered at the Beach Park on our regular meeting day and time, Monday Nov. 13 at 9:30 am. We enjoyed snack and had a brief business meeting. Holiday Bows were available! We then carpooled to The Arbor Gate for a private tour/program which will began at 11 a.m. Beverly spoke about Prepare in the Fall – Be Ready for Spring. We then went to lunch at Goodsons.

1st Annual New Residents Wine/Appetizer Social 

Date: November 11, 2006 rain or shine!
Place: Basketball Pavilion on Sapphire Circle Across from the boat ramp
Time: 5:00 to 7:00 pm Socialize beginning at 5 pm Introductions begin at 5:45
Who: Adult residents who moved into their homes in ILE between Oct 2005 and November 2006 will be honored. All adult residents in the entire subdivision are invited.
Please Bring: The appetizers and beverages will be provided by the residents that attend. The event committee will provide cups, paper products, decorations, ice, ice chests, and name tags.

Salado-
Homestead Heritage (Oct '06)

A small group of Garden Club members (and some of their spouses) went on an overnight trip. They visited the 510-acre homesteading community just north of Waco known as Homestead Heritage. A nearby points of interest is Salado, Texas, with lots of great shopping.  Saturday was spent at Homestead Heritage on the Brazos. They offer a complete curriculum for gardening, crafts, homesteading and other essential self-sustaining skills.  Visit homesteadheritage.com for more information.

64th Annual Bulb and Plant Mart (Oct '06)

One of the largest horticultural events in Texas, the Annual Bulb and Plant Mart hosted by the Garden Club of Houston features the widest selection of top-quality bulbs from domestic and international suppliers and an expanded collection of hard-to-find and unusual plants, perennials, trees, shrubs and vines. Many of the plants and bulbs are unique offerings from the gardens of Club members, grown specifically for the Mart. Helpful and knowledgable Master Gardeners are on hand to answer questions. Messina Hof Winery (August '06)

We made arrangements for a private tour of the Messina Hof Winery near Bryan/College Station for Saturday, August the 5th. The winery was harvesting grapes. There was a 90 minute tour which included everything from visiting the fields to tasting up to 4 wines in their recently renovated tasting room. The cost of $7 per person (paid to the winery) include a complimentary wine glass for each person. During Harvest Weekends there are many optional activities to choose from. You might want to pick and stomp, or eat lunch there, or attend a wine and food pairing seminar. You can get further information at www.messinahof.com or by calling the winery direct at (979) 778-9463 ext. 34. There is no size limit for a private tour but they need definite numbers (and additional payment) if you opt for other activities. This event was open to any ILE residents over 21 and their guests.
